When Bowen Doesn't Work

A Two-Day Advanced Workshop with Gyuri Liebe

(Bowen Instructor, Hungary)

Queen Camel, Somerset, UK: 1st & 2nd July 2026

Course Overview

The Bowen Technique is an excellent, highly effective therapeutic tool. So when it doesn't produce the results we expect, where does the problem lie?

This course takes a problem-solving approach to those cases where Bowen hasn't worked as anticipated. Whether we're looking for immediate results with acute presentations or longer-term resolution of chronic issues, understanding why something didn't work is as valuable as knowing what does.

Is the issue with our precision? Our pressure, speed, or timing? Our intention during the move? Are we emphasising the muscular, fascial, circulatory, or nervous system, and does that emphasis match what the client actually needs?

Some practitioners assume that because the body is interconnected, every Bowen move works holistically by default. While this is partly true, we can and should learn to set clear intentions and priorities in our work.

The Foundation: The Myofascial System

Since Bowen is a soft tissue method, a neurofascial and neuromuscular reflex approach, this course takes the myofascial system as its starting point.

This intricate network encompasses and influences the body's other major systems:

·       Structural: It determines the relative position of bones and body segments

·       Circulatory: It influences fluid distribution both locally and systemically

·       Neurological: Richly innervated and containing nerve pathways, it has profound effects on the nervous system

By understanding this interconnected network more deeply, we can make more informed choices about how and where to intervene.

What You Will Learn

By the end of this two-day course, participants will:

·       Understand why certain Bowen interventions may not produce expected results

·       Gain a deeper appreciation of the myofascial network as a foundation for Bowen work

·       Explore how pressure, speed, timing, and intention affect therapeutic outcomes

·       Learn to set appropriate emphases; muscular, fascial, circulatory, or neurological, based on client presentation

·       Develop skills in observation and assessment to inform clinical decision-making

·       Discover additional Bowen-style interventions to expand your therapeutic repertoire

·       Integrate anatomical, circulatory, and neurological perspectives into your practice

Please note that this 2 day workshop condensation of the material in a longer 10 day course that Gyuri runs in Hungary and Germany.

Who Should Attend
